The World Zionist Organization has launched a new iPhone application – A Zionist calendar called "Zionation."
The Calendar will include historical dates and current information regarding events being held in Jewish communities around the world. It will operate in three languages – Hebrew, English and Spanish – and will be distributed as a gift for the new Jewish Year to hundreds of thousands of people in Israel and around the world.
"Zionation" will be used as an accessible information pool that will be available to be used by any user interested in strengthening their connection to the State of Israel or to broaden their knowledge on Zionist History. The application will include information on central dates in the history of the State of Israel and the Zionist Movement and will allow users to add these dates into their calendar in their iPhone or Android. It will also include information on prominent personalities and events in the history of Zionism.
In addition to the Zionist calendar, the application will provide the user with information on central events taking place in Jewish communities around the globe. Amongst other things, it will give information to teenagers interested in taking part in Zionist youth movement activities around the world and to students abroad who are interested in taking part in campus activities.
The head of the Department for Diaspora Activities of the World Zionist Organization, Gusti Yehoshua Braverman, says that the initiative to create the "Zionation" application expressed the dedication of the WZO in general, and the department for Diaspora Activities in particular, to create up-to-date dialogue, relevant for the younger generation, and suited to their language and modern lifestyle. "We believe that now, more then ever, in light of the detachedness in large and growing parts of the Jewish community towards the State of Israel, we are obligated to encourage, especially the younger generation around the world, to create for themselves a Zionist identity alongside their Jewish identity. A Zionist identity that is based on knowledge and acquaintance with significant events and personalities that constitute the Zionist calendar, and empathy towards the State of Israel, its work, values and accomplishments."
